Description: Beginning web layout using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Basic ideas, practices, tools and resources for designing a tableless web site using CSS. How CSS affects a site's accessibility and usability. Attendees should have a basic knowledge of html and/or web design layout.
Presenter: CB Averitt, Webmaster, Florence-Darlington Technical College. CB Averitt is the Webmaster at Florence-Darlington Technical College. He is a part of a team of four that is responsible for eleven websites. His responsibilities include web server maintenance, SQL server maintenance, programming, designing and layout. He also works with media such as closed captioning for Adobe Flash Media. His passion is building tableless designs using Cascading Style Sheets. CB also owns and manages Cats Productions, Inc., located in Florence, SC where he designs, builds and maintains several website for local businesses and organizations.

Can people with disabilities and age related limitations access and use your web site? What does the law say? What are common web access barriers for people who use assistive technology to read a web site? How can these barriers be prevented and addressed? This training is targeted to non-profit organizations but would be useful to anyone designing web sites. This training is interactive and participants will have hands-on experience using accessibility tools. Space is limited to no more than 30.

There is an excellent FREE resource for "testing" web pages online, the Web Accessibility Toolbar.http://www.visionaustralia.org.au/ais/toolbar/

The Web Accessibility Toolbar is provided by the Accessible Information Solutions (AIS) team of Vision Australia.

It has been developed to aid manual examination of web pages for a variety of aspects of accessibility. It consists of a range of functions that:

• identify components of a web page


• facilitate the use of 3rd party online applications
  simulate user experiences


• provide links to references and additional resources
  It is very user-friendly!

Doctor Disability recently launched a redesigned website that allows physicians and dentists to request disability insurance quotes, compare quotes, and get custom disability insurance plans.
