This Hispanic Heritage Month, we are highlighting the experience of Autism and the Latin(o/a/x) Communities. Studies show that Latin(o/a/x) children are diagnosed with Autism about 2.5 years later than non- Latin(o/a/x) children. This delay significantly impacts access to crucial support services.
Additionally, cultural barriers such as community perceptions, general mistrust in service providers, and socio-economic factors further restrict access to necessary support. Understanding the intersectionality of race and ethnicity with Autism is crucial for creating inclusive and equitable support systems. |
