How to make the most out of your summer

Summer is here, and we want you to enjoy however way you can. We've compiled some of the best tips for summer travel, staying hydrated, and getting outdoors. Let us know what YOU decide to do this summer, we can't wait to hear about it!

  • Wear sunscreen
  • Drink and make sure to keep drinking -- adding fruit or herbs to your water can add tasty infused flavor to keep you motivated to continue drinking
  • Plan ahead -- if you are spending time outdoors know your plan, bring extra food and hydration, a hat and sunglasses, and extra layers of clothes.
  • HAVE FUN!
Dress for the heat!
  • Wear breathable fabrics like cotton and linens
  • Heat makes feet swell, a common struggle of many wheelchair users; buy shoes 1/2 size bigger or wide width for summer.
  • Kimonos and shoulder bearing tops are in style and great options to keep cool.
  • Add a stylish denim jacket for those cooler summer nights.
Hit the road!
  • Bring a GPS locator and download a Weather App.
  • Bring extra medication and a backup wheelchair.
  • Check accessibility of stops along the way.
  • If you have a disability, you can get free access to national parks with a free America the Beautiful pass.
  • Flying J truck stops have roll-in showers.
