Assistive Technology (AT) devices and services have been mandated for years through IDEA federal legislation. As a result, teachers are in need of both guidance and tools to successfully implement assistive technology. This workshop will include an overview of assistive technology resources and who could benefit from accessing them. Basic UDL concepts, and how they influence the way our support strategies are implemented, as well as various AT supports for literacy building will be discussed.

Participants will be part of a demonstration of the new OrCam Read. The speaker will share information about the new device and discuss its benefits. The Orcam Read is a handheld reading device that reads from any printed surface or digital screen. It takes a picture of the text and instantly reads it out loud. The OrCam Read is fast, accurate, and easy to use. People with reading or cognitive difficulty, or mild to moderate low vision, may benefit from using it.
