We hope everyone receives some much needed rest!

Employability Credential Update from The SC Dept. of Education In order to best support school districts in launching this work, we are pleased to announce that we will host a two-day workshop in early 2018. The purpose of this workshop is to provide district teams responsible for implementing The Credential an overview of the statute, proposed regulation, and other documents; and to begin strategically working with districts on district-level rollouts. We will also collectively strategize next steps for the provision of technical assistance, infrastructure support, and professional development. Recognizing that a number of districts already have locally-recognized credentials in place that may meet all statutory and regulatory components, our focus after the workshop will be tiered to support those districts that currently do not offer, or have limited offerings for an employability credential. As soon as logistics are finalized, we will send district superintendents and district directors of special education registration information for the workshop. We recommend districts send teams of four (or less if appropriate) to this event. Registration and materials are free, and lunch will be provided.

Employment Training Opportunities The Transition Alliance of South Carolina of South Carolina has partnered with TranCen to offer 3 different trainings in the spring of 2018 designed to provide practitioners in the field of transition effective community employment skills & strategies. All trainings will be held at the Columbia Conference Center. The cost for each training is $40 (Lunch is provided). Please pass along to anyone you know anyone that might benefit from any of these trainings. Seating will be limited. Discovery and Assessment Process January 9, 2018 (9am – 4pm) Direct service providers attending this one-day training will learn strategies for discovery and assessment, including functional assessments in community employment settings and customized employment strategies. Job Development Training February 6, 2018 (9am – 4pm) Direct service providers attending this one-day training will learn strategies for developing appropriate community employment opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities. Topics include development of customized employment opportunities. Providing Workplace Supports in Community Settings March 27, 2018 (9am – 4pm) This training is designed for job coaches and others who DIRECTLY provide workplace supports to students or adults in community employment sites including work experiences. Participants will work to develop the skills necessary to facilitate the effective integration of individuals with disabilities into the workplace.
