First Author™ is a comprehensive writing curriculum that guides educators to teach beginning writing skills to students with special needs including autism. Dr. Janet Sturm is leading curriculum innovation in writing, and she designed the First Author Curriculum to prepare students to meet these new expectations.

In this webinar, I’ll show you a snapshot of how First Author Writing Curriculum for special education can guide literacy instruction and progress monitoring.

Participants will learn:
  • Gather and create a writing learning environment for classroom and at-home learners to become First Authors.
  • Adapt lesson plans for individualized needs
  • Measure early writing.

Interested in improving services for disabled survivors of sexual/domestic violence?

All-Access Virtual Training logo from ABLE SC

Do you work with people with disabilities and/or survivors of abuse? Attend our conference with SCCADVASA while we learn how to improve access to services for survivors with disabilities.

People with disabilities experience violence at a rate three times higher than individuals without disabilities. Social isolation, reliance on assistance equipment and/or other individuals to access services, and compounded health complications not only increase risk of victimization, but also can create challenges for victim/survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence to receive services following an assault.

What you'll learn:
  • The risk and protective factors for intimate partner violence and the intersections with visible and invisible disabilities
  • The basics of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the responsibilities for domestic and sexual violence advocacy agencies in the provision of accessible services
  • The stories of survivors and the positive impacts of adaptive advocacy services, as well as the negative impacts of gaps in services and rigid adaptability
  • How to assess and improve services for survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence who have disabilities
WHEN: September 25, 10 AM to 12:30 PM
WHERE: Online
WHO: Service providers, people who work with people with disabilities and/or survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault, DSS employees
FEATURING: National disability rights activist and survivor, Stephanie Woodward, JD
