"The CDR library is a collaborative effort between the University Of South Carolina School Of Medicine Library, Baby Net/South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, the Center for Disability Resources, and the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs. Located on the USC School of Medicine campus in Columbia, the library makes books, videos, DVD’s, audiotapes, and brochures on a wide range of disability topics available nationwide."

Check Out our "Be Healthy…Read Healthy" Project!

The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Library has received funds from the South Carolina Legislature for the Be Healthy…Read Healthy project, which aims to increase access to health information for underserved individuals in rural and urban communities throughout South Carolina. Access to quality consumer health information empowers patients and their families by increasing knowledge and improving decision-making. As part of this project, the School of Medicine Library selected consumer health and disability information resources, ten books and one DVD, to distribute to each county library system in the state.

Kelly's Book Review

Andy and his yellow Frisbee written by Mary Thompson is about Andy and his yellow Frisbee. He has Autism. He loves playing with his yellow Frisbee. He always wanted to be by him self. He never wants to be around other people. He likes to be in his own little world. It is a really great book. Everybody should read this book. It is really fun to read this book.

Kelly's Book Review

No Time for Me written by John M. Barrett is about Jimmy and his family. Jimmy is always upset because he thinks that he is not important to his family anymore. When Jimmy went to parents day at school he met a new friend Tommy. Tommy’s parents didn’t come either. He knew how Jimmy felt. That’s how they became friends. I think anybody who have parents who are divorced or who are feeling alone you should read this book. It is a really good book.

We are now happy to offer our materials nationwide! Anyone in the fifty states may now check out items.

* Reference librarians are available from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
* Requests are accepted by mail, by email to wilsons@gw.med.sc.edu, by telephone to (803) 733-1501, or on a walk-in basis.
* Books may be borrowed for a month. Videos may be borrowed for two weeks.
* Materials can be mailed to your home or office.
* Postage-paid return mailers are available for materials sent to South Carolina families. And all South Carolina residents may continue borrowing multiple items at one time.
* A courier is available to bring items to the Center for Disability Resources Monday-Friday.
* Residents of states other than South Carolina may check out one item at a time, and are responsible for return postage.
