Sensory Friendly Day at the SC State Museum

from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sensory Friendly Day at the museum is for schools and
families with special needs. On this day visitors will be able to enjoy a less
crowded environment, designated quiet areas, light and sound reduction when
possible, and extra staff and volunteers in the exhibits. School groups and
families with special needs are invited to share this time and space with
others facing similar challenges in a safe, understanding environment.
Guests are encouraged to bring equipment including
wheelchairs, walkers, noise reducing headphones, and other technology.
Enjoy:
• Special
sensory-friendly BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Planetarium showings of
Earth, Moon, and Sun at 10:30am and 12:30pm.
• Special
Rev. Dr. Solomon Jackson, Jr. 4D Theater showings of Shallow Seas will be at
11:30am and 1:30pm.
• If it is
a sunny day, solar viewing in the Boeing Observatory from 11:30am-12:30pm. PLUS
live solar images will be projected on the screens throughout the day.
• Explore
the Museum with extra docents to help navigate and lead you to a Sensory Center
if you or your family members need a “sensory break.”
