New Series - Summer 2020

The National Association for the Dually Diagnosed (NADD) and the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) have partnered in collaboration with The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities at Rutgers University to offer a premium webinar series focused on how Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) support people with dual diagnosis.

Dual Diagnosis describes the presence of both intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and symptoms of a mental health challenge or psychiatric condition. Although people with IDD are more likely to experience mental health challenges and psychiatric conditions, their mental health needs are often unrecognized and untreated. Direct Support Professionals spend more time with a person with dual diagnosis than any other professional and are in the best position to understand and address these complex needs on a day-to-day basis.

Over the course of six sessions, we will explore important considerations and topics related to dual diagnosis and highlight how the role of the direct support professional in assessment, intervention, and treatment for people with IDD and mental health needs can support a better quality of life.
