An Airline Damaged Her Wheelchair So Social Media Took Care of It

After flying from New York to Phoenix to visit some friends, Gabrielle deFiebre got off the plane to find that the airline had destroyed her power assist wheels. What could have been a trip-ruining fiasco took a turn for the better when a friend shot a video of the situation and posted it to TikTok. The disability community’s response helped shine a light on this all-too-common problem for wheelchair users, as well as social media’s power to put pressure on multibillion-dollar businesses.
