AM Session

An Introduction to Sign Language for Parents and Professionals

About the Training

This is a fun, interactive training for parents and professionals who want to learn some American Sign Language (ASL) signs to use with young children for early communication. It covers 30+ single ASL signs, the manual alphabet, and numbers 1-10. It also covers how sign language encourages speech and language development and enhances overall communication skills.

Time: 10-11:30 a.m. ET

Target Audience:

  1. Parents of young children with speech and language delays and/or disorders.
  2. Professionals who work with young children with speech and language delays and/or disorders.

Participants will Learn:

  1. Participants will learn and demonstrate thirty American Sign Language signs to use with young children
  2. Participants will learn and demonstrate the Manual Alphabet and numbers 1-10.
  3. Participants will learn and demonstrate signing and reading a children’s book.

PM Session

An Introduction to Emergency Signs for Parents and Professionals

About the Training

This is a fun, interactive training for parents and professionals who want to learn emergency American Sign Language (ASL) signs to use in the workplace. It covers 50+ single ASL emergency signs, for the workplace. It also covers best practices for communicating with employees who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Time: 12:30-2:30 p.m. ET

Target Audience: 

  1. Parents of transition-age students (13+) who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or have speech and language delays and use sign language to communicate
  2. Professionals who work with employees who are using sign-language to communicate

Participants will Learn:

  1. Participants will demonstrate and show fifty emergency American Sign Language signs to use in the workplace.
  2. Participants will identify 10 tips for communicating with an employee who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  3. Participants will identify 5+ tips for communicating in a group or meeting with an employee who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
