Hire Me SC

People with disabilities can work, want to work, and should be afforded every opportunity to work. Hire Me SC is a campaign that promotes a culture of inclusion across the state of South Carolina, one in which employment for every individual, disability or not, is the norm rather than the exception.

SC Disability Employment Coalition Update

During the South Carolina Disability Employment Coalition (SCDEC) quarterly meeting on March 6, 2025, Able SC’s WIPA Project Lead Community Work Incentives Coordinator (LCWIC), Liz Fosnaugh, presented on Social Security Updates impacting SSI/SSDI beneficiaries. She offered an update on In-kind Support and Maintenance, which impacts beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and what it means for those affected by the update. Liz also shared updates related to rental agreements for those on SSI/SSDI benefits and Social Security overpayments. Since the meeting on March 6, the Social Security Administration (SSA), has released new information regarding overpayments. Please check with your local SSA office for the most up-to-date information. If you need help understanding how the updates impact you, please contact Able SC’s WIPA Project at wipa@able-sc.org

Additionally, meeting attendees heard updates from the SCDEC committees and workgroups. The SCDEC Transition workgroup is currently meeting monthly. The mission of the workgroup is to advocate for a network of private and public career support that promotes competitive, integrated employment as the outcome for South Carolinians with disabilities. If you are a service provider or educator and interested in learning more about this workgroup, please contact Marly Saade at msaade@able-sc.org.
