Hurricane Matthew Survivors with Disabilities
Able SC Transition Conference

Empowering a Future is Able SC’s annual transition conference for professionals working with young adults with disabilities. Mapping Your Future is the free companion event for young adults with disabilities in transition and up to two family members. Both conferences are intended to raise expectations, foster awareness of best practices, and build critical skills.
Both conferences will be held at Furman University. Empowering a Future will run for a full day on Friday, March 10, 2017. Mapping Your Future will run for a full day on Saturday, March 11, 2017. If you’d like more information about registering, participating as a vendor, or sharing your transition knowledge as a presenter, you have come to the right place!
Important Event Information
This is an open call to share your expertise with professionals! To promote access to more material and better engage attendees, this year’s Empowering a Future will feature short presentations and a much greater variety of presenters. Each presenter will be sharing an innovative practice or practical tool that conference attendees can take with them when they leave. Young adult self-advocates, parents, graduate and undergraduate students, teachers, rehabilitation counselors, professors, and anyone else who has something innovative to share are all encouraged to submit a proposal! All selected presenters will receive a free conference registration to Empowering a Future as our way of thanking you for sharing your expertise. The proposal form is very short and can be found by following this link. The deadline for submitting a proposal to present is January 18, 2017.
Vendor registration is currently open. Vendor registration is $50.00 and covers a six-foot table and lunch at both conferences (Friday and Saturday). Click here for a vendor registration form and more details. The deadline to register as a vendor is January 18, 2017.
Mapping Your Future and Empowering a Future 2017 are made possible through support from Able South Carolina, Transition Alliance of South Carolina, SC Department of Education, Family Connection of SC, Protection & Advocacy for People with Disabilities, Inc.

SC Assistive Technology Exchange
Help us spread the word about the Exchange!
The South Carolina Assistive Technology Exchange is an online recycling database that helps people with disabilities find affordable assistive technology devices and equipment. The Exchange is designed to facilitate transactions between South Carolinians. The South Carolina Assistive Technology Program (SCATP), does not profit from the sale of listed devices.
To register for the SC Assistive Technology Exchange, go to http://www.scatpexchange.net/register.php, complete the page, and sign the disclaimer form. You can register even if you don't have items to immediately sell, give, or find. A password will be generated and you'll be in the system. If you don't have email, you can call SCATP at 803-935-5273 to have your account information entered for you. Items can be viewed without registering, but you need to register to list or get equipment.
Those with equipment no longer needed can list all available devices for use in education, employment, and community living environments, and connect with people interested in finding these resources. If your agency has equipment that no one is using, feel free to list that equipment on the SC AT Exchange.
