Private and Secure Automated Captioning,
Translation and Note-Taking
of Remote Meetings and Livestreams

Date: June 18, 2020
Time: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Cost: FREE Webinar
Speaker Name: Robert Palmquist, CEO of SpeechGear

With COVID-19 and the resulting remote meeting and livestream situations, ensuring equal access for everyone has become a significant issue. No matter if it’s co-workers of a firm, students in a school, or attendees of a religious service, remote livestreams and meetings can be difficult to follow and understand. This is especially true for individuals who are hard of hearing, deaf, and those who prefer using a language other than English.

In this webinar you will learn (1) The ways that captioning benefits everyone, not just individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, (2) What items to consider when you are selecting the approaches you will use for your captioning system(s), (3) Best practices and tips for ensuring successful deployment and use of your system.

To help you start implementing an inclusive captioning system, each participant in this webinar will receive four weeks of unlimited captioning services that they can use in livestream situations.

Gene study investigates rare form of autism

Medical News Today logo

Recent research has shed new light on a particular
gene mutation linked to a rare form of autism.

genetic testing lab picture

A new study looks at the genetic mechanism behind a rare form of autism.

A new study is helping scientists better understand the link between the mutation of a gene called MEF2C and a rare form of autism called MEF2C haploinsufficiency syndrome.

The study, which appears in the journal Biological Psychiatry, is the result of a collaboration between the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston and the Greenwood Genetic Center, also in South Carolina.

What is MEF2C?

In general, people have a pair of MEF2C genes. However, for people with MEF2C haploinsufficiency syndrome, only one of them functions properly. The other is not powerful enough to mediate brain development as it should normally.

According to an article in the journal Neurogenetics, MEF2C haploinsufficiency syndrome is “associated with intellectual disability, autistic features, epilepsy, and abnormal movements.”

Although scientists know that a deficiency in the MEF2C genes is responsible for MEF2C haploinsufficiency syndrome, they do not yet know exactly how the genes regulate brain development.

Date: June 18th, 2020
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Cost: FREE
Presenter: Robert Palmquist

With COVID-19 and the resulting remote meeting and livestream situations, ensuring equal access for everyone has become a significant issue. Be it co-workers at a company, students at a school, or attendees at a religious service. Remote livestreams and meetings can be difficult to follow and understand. This is especially true for individuals that are hard of hearing, deaf, and those who prefer using a language other than English.

In this webinar you will learn how to use Streamer to automatically caption and translate remote conversations, meetings and webinars in a way that is easy, affordable, private and secure. This same approach works with every livestream platform including Zoom, Google, Adobe, Cisco, RingCentral, Skype and more. Set it up once and everything being said is instantly captioned and translated for all participants. During the webinar you will have the opportunity to create a Streamer system for yourself, your business, agency, or school.

ID/MH Dual Diagnosis Webinar Series for Direct Support Professionals

ID/MH Dual Diagnosis Series
for Direct Support Professionals

ID MH Dual Diagnosis Series for Direct Support Professionals webinars promo

New Series - Summer 2020

The National Association for the Dually Diagnosed (NADD) and the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) have partnered in collaboration with The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities at Rutgers University to offer a premium webinar series focused on how Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) support people with dual diagnosis.

Dual Diagnosis describes the presence of both intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and symptoms of a mental health challenge or psychiatric condition. Although people with IDD are more likely to experience mental health challenges and psychiatric conditions, their mental health needs are often unrecognized and untreated. Direct Support Professionals spend more time with a person with dual diagnosis than any other professional and are in the best position to understand and address these complex needs on a day-to-day basis.

Over the course of six sessions, we will explore important considerations and topics related to dual diagnosis and highlight how the role of the direct support professional in assessment, intervention, and treatment for people with IDD and mental health needs can support a better quality of life.
