We Are Able 20:20 Project

In celebration of our 20th anniversary, we are launching our We Are Able 20:20 Campaign.

We ask that during the month of February, you join our effort by making a $20 donation - and spreading the word to twenty of your closest friends!

20 years ago today, a group of people with disabilities opened SC's first Center for Independent Living, Able South Carolina (known then as Disability Action Center).

We have been promoting the Independent Living Philosophy ever since by empowering South Carolinians with disabilities to reach their independence and by promoting inclusion and equality within the community. We are so very proud by the fact that we didn't just learn our mission; we live it!

Thank you all for your support throughout the years and we are excited to see what we can achieve together in our next 20 years!

SC Assistive Technology Re-Use Summit

An estimated 20% to 40% of assistive technology goes unused for a variety of reasons. Medical
and technology needs change. Equipment is outgrown, outdated, or abandoned at the end
of life. Reutilization of assistive technology can meet the needs of many people who would
not otherwise be able to afford the technology they need for education, independence,
employment, and to maintain community involvement. Reutilization programs can also enable
children with disabilities to take direct ownership of AT devices rather than remaining dependent
on school districts for AT acquisition and use.

At this Re-Use Summit, we’ll learn about South Carolina’s Reutilization Initiatives and offer our
re-use programs the opportunity to gather more support from community and state networks.
We’ll connect people and organizations, so we can all work more effectively to share reutilized
equipment throughout the state.

When: Wednesday, February 19, 2014 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Where: Collaborative Training Center, Midlands Center, 8301 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203
To register for this workshop: Complete the Reuse Summit online registration form. For questions, call Will McCain at (803) 935-5004 or Lydia Durham at (803) 935-5263 or 800-915-4522.
