Everything You Want to Know About Voting in SC
Demo and Voter Registration
Date: September 24, 2020
Time: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. ET
Cost: FREE
Speakers: Hampton Miller and John Michael Catalano
Target Audience: Current voters and individuals who are of age to vote. Also, those who qualify to vote, but are currently 17 and will be 18 years old prior to the November 3rd General Election
Description: This Webinar is to provide all attendees the opportunity to familiarize themselves with South Carolina’s System of Voting. We will cover use of the system and other components that are part of the election process for the upcoming November General Election.
Participants will learn:
- Provide South Carolina’s Paper- Based Voting System Demo, including the ADA Features for voters. – we will offer during the presentation a hands-on use of the system.
- Cover the Voter Registration Process, what to do and voter registration dates. Information for how to register to vote and what one needs, deadline for the 2020 Election year.
- How to utilize the scVOTES.gov website for finding your polling place and how to review your sample ballot to be ready to Vote in November.
There will be a question and answer session at the end of the demonstration.

Registration is open for Buddy Walk 2020!
This year, we will be celebrating Buddy Walk in an all new virtual format and you can register today! While we would love to celebrate with you in person, we are excited to offer families and sponsors new ideas to support each other and Buddy Walk 2020!
This year, during Down Syndrome Awareness Month, we are inviting participants and sponsors to create their own personalized Buddy Walk celebration at any time during the month of October. Keeping social distance and safety at the forefront of these personalized celebrations, be creative and tailor your activities to family, friends, and customers.
Our Theme:
We encourage taking a walk, throwing a backyard barbecue or tailgate party, decorating houses, yards or businesses, creating a game night, or hosting a virtual party—there are many fun ways celebrate!
We will be asking everyone to send us a brief video clip or photo of their personalized celebration. Then, on November 1, we will host a virtual “Finish Line” Ceremony to view a video premier of the celebrations, present the 2020 Awards, visit with a few special guests, and more!

Learn How to Make Documents Accessible for All
Date: September 29th and September 30th, 2020 ET
Time: 10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (a 1 hour break for lunch will be provided)

Presenters: George Joeckel and Jonathan Whiting, WEBAIM
Quickly get up-to-speed on creating accessible Word, PowerPoint, and PDF files. Participants will practice evaluating and repairing common accessibility issues, as well as creating accessible documents from the start.
Topics include:
- Principles of document accessibility
- Guidelines and laws (Section 508, WCAG 2, ADA, etc.)
- Creating accessible documents in Word and Power Point
- Evaluating document accessibility
- Exporting from Office to PDF
- The structure of an accessible PDF
- Evaluating and repairing a PDF in Acrobat Pro
This is a hands-on training—participants will need access to
Microsoft Office and Acrobat Professional.
Speakers:
Jonathan Whiting is the director of training at WebAIM. His main passion is helping others learn to make the web more accessible to people with disabilities. Jonathan is also involved in the GOALS Project, a program to assist institutions of higher education in improving their accessibility system-wide. With a master's degree in instructional technology and over seventeen years of experience in the field of web accessibility, Jonathan has published dozens of articles, tutorials, and other instructional resources. He has traveled extensively to train thousands of web developers and other professionals who develop or maintain web content.
George Joeckel manages the online training program at WebAIM. He has a master’s degree in instructional psychology and technology, and over 20 years of teaching experience. Since 2008, he has developed online courses at Utah State University, and he joined the WebAIM team at the end of 2015. The Accessible Documents video-based course went online in July 2018. Well over 1,000 independent-study participants had successfully completed the training. George also conducts pre-conference workshops and delivers presentations at national conferences.
