First Author™ is a comprehensive writing curriculum that guides educators to teach beginning writing skills to students with special needs including autism. Handwriting instruction, copying, and tracing won’t cut it anymore. Our students are now required to compose—to really write. These expectations require new thinking on instruction and curriculum. Dr. Janet Sturm is leading curriculum innovation in writing, and she designed the First Author Curriculum to prepare students to meet these new expectations.

In this webinar, I’ll show you a snapshot of how First Author Writing Curriculum for special education can guide literacy instruction and progress monitoring.

Participants will learn:
  • Gather and create a writing learning environment for classroom and at-home learners to become First Authors.
  • Adapt lesson plans for individualized needs
  • Measure early writing.
