A Family Connection Road Trip to Help
At-Risk Students and Families!

In the months following the impacts of Hurricane Helene, families of young children were displaced across South Carolina. School districts across the state saw a significant increase in the number of students relocated and needing additional support. Each school district’s McKinney-Vento team have been working to ensuring students experiencing homelessness, including those displaced by natural disasters, have equal access to public education and support services. FCSC partnered with several school districts, including Greenville--our most recent recipients--to distribute essential supplies to families, including book bags, toiletry items, first aid kits, toothbrushes, sanitizing wipes, portable sleeping mats, noise canceling headphones and more. These items, purposefully selected for students with disabilities in mind, can help to ease transition to a new learning setting and increase placement stability.

Why It Matters:

  • Reduce stress during visits to doctors, therapists, and other providers

  • Find accessible ways to stay active, manage stress, and create a safe home environment

We’ve put together a brand-new fact sheet to help you see how health literacy supports healthier, more independent lives.
