Advocates Fear Proposed Medicare Rule Could Limit Access to Catheters and Ostomy Supplies

Disability organizations and advocates are urging community members to submit testimony against a proposed rule by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that would place urological, ostomy and tracheostomy supplies under Medicare’s competitive bidding program. Advocates and industry leaders worry that exposing these products to competitive bidding will cut out many smaller, local DME providers and could limit consumers’ access to the products we need. New Research for Bowel Control After Spinal Cord Injury

MetroHealth in Ohio is exploring new ways to help adults with spinal cord injury manage bowel dysfunction. Two studies are testing if electrical stimulation to the pelvic area can reduce reflexes causing bowel problems. One study involves one in-person session, while another tests at-home daily stimulation for four weeks.
