Celebrating #ADA33

33 years to the day, celebrate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). People with disabilities are a part of the largest, most intersectional minority group in the US, and the ADA protects these individuals' civil rights by prohibiting discrimination, providing protection living within communities, supporting economic self-sufficiency, and promoting greater health equity. The ADA has sparked progress in the disability community, yet there is always more action that can be done to battle stigma and limited support. Dr. Shannon Griffin-Blake emphasizes “people with disabilities have had to be self-advocates and identify ways to adapt, succeed, and survive in social and physical environments that have not been created or well designed for their needs,” and later poses the question, “What will you do this July to further build upon the legacy of the ADA?”

The "Think Higher. Think College." Public Awareness campaign was created to educate and inform families, students, teachers, school administrators, transition and vocational rehabilitation professionals, and higher education faculty and staff about what's possible for students with intellectual disability.
