Behind the Lens: Wheelchair Users Tell Their Stories in Acclaimed Documentaries

Rolling behind the camera to make a documentary is more accessible than ever thanks to new, more affordable technology, expanding media outlets and a content-craving public. We spoke to three wheelchair-using filmmakers with varying degrees of experience who aim to entertain, educate and motivate others with disabilities to tell their stories, all while busting myths held by nondisabled viewers.

CALL FOR STORIES

Tell Us What You Want New Mobility to Cover in 2024

What do you want to see NM cover in 2024? What stories have we missed in 2023? We want to know!

Send an email with a few sentences and any relevant links explaining what you’d like to see us cover. People, products, tips for how to make disability life better — we’ll take it all. If you have an idea, or want to cover a story yourself, let us know. No story is too big, too small or too out there. The deadline for submissions is August 4.

PRODUCTS

A Wearable, Multipurpose Gripping Aid

Fiber, an unobtrusive wearable device, addresses this problem by adjusting to let you grip items as small as a pen or as large as a roll of paper towels.
