South Carolina State Museum, Accessibility Morning Activities on Saturday, June 1st from 9am-11am

Greetings from the South Carolina State Museum!

We hope everyone is having a lovely spring and a fantastic end to the school year!

Please join us for this month's Accessibility Morning activities on Saturday, June 1st from 9am-11am. Please note this event is taking place on the first Saturday of the month and not the usual second Saturday of the month. Let us know if you'd like to join us (and Taco Dragon!) for this awesome event on June 1st. We'd love to have you!

Check out the information below to find out more about the event and what we ask of you as a Community Resource Partner. As always, we'd love it if you could share this event with others, and let us know if there is anyone else we could be inviting to it!

Accessibility Morning Information:

This inclusive event provides FREE general admission to guests who are neurodiverse or have other disabilities so they can experience the museum’s exhibitions at their own pace and enjoy other special activities.

ASL Interpretation will be provided by the SC School for the Deaf and Blind as noted in the schedule below. The museum also has several other accessibility tools available - just ask an educator upon your arrival!

The event is free, and guests are encouraged to pre-register as the FREE 9:45am show tickets can only be reserved on-site the day of the event. There is no age limit and you do not have to attend the activities. Guests are welcome to simply come and enjoy the museum.

Accessibility Morning Schedule:

  • 8:45am Program Partners Arrive (we provide one 6ft table and two chairs - just let us know if you need more)
  • 9-10am Community Resource Partners present (1st Floor - Carolina Gallery)
    • Please note: You're welcome to stay until 11am but we only advertise that you'll be there until 10am, so no pressure!
  • 9-11am Sensory Room available (2nd Floor - Huger St. Room)
  • 9:30-9:45am Meet-and-greet with Taco Dragon (1st Floor NASA Gallery) *ASL interpreter present
  • 9:45am Sensory Friendly Show: Penguins 4D *ASL interpreter present
  • 11am Official event is over, but guests are welcome to stay all day 🙂

How can YOU get involved?

  1. Sharing the event! The biggest help is just getting the word out.
    1. Facebook Event:https://www.facebook.com/events/1387997611907813/
    2. Registration Page:https://www.scmuseum.org/events/accessibility-morning-taco-dragon
  2. Being a presenting partner! We'd love to have you here sharing the amazing things your organization is doing! There is no fee. We want this to be free as possible to everyone and simply be a good resource fair to our guests. Doesn't matter if you only make it once a year or every month - just let us know when you'd like to setup a table and we'd love to have you!
  3. Don't have staff but have stuff? We do have a small table where we are able to place materials. Just bring by whatever you'd like us to put out and we're happy to share it!

Thank you so much!
