Drowning is a serious risk for individuals with Autism, other developmental disabilities, and Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Autistic children are 160 times more likely to drown than their neurotypical peers. For individuals with Alzheimer’s, 6 in 10 will wander—and the chances of survival drop dramatically after just 48 hours.
The Autism Society is proud to launch It Takes Two, a national initiative supported by the Kevin and Avonte Grant (K&A), aimed at reducing drowning and wandering-related tragedies. This campaign raises awareness and equips families, caregivers, and first responders with life-saving tools, training, and resources. |
